Let’s start with a question this time. Have you heard about the Valley of Flowers? You might think it is in Uttrakhand right? But now there’s no need to go all the way to Uttrakhand when we can find it right here in Maharashtra. The place is called Kaas Plateau which is also locally known as Kaas Pathar. It is located 25 km from Satara City and comes under the Sahyadri Sub Cluster of the Western Ghats. Spread in the area of 10 km at an altitude of 1200 meters, this site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Situated in the high hill plateaus and grasslands, it turns into a ‘valley of flowers’ during monsoon from August to early October
Kaas Plateau is spread across 1000 hectares and houses around 850 varieties of flowers. The orchids bloom here for only a period of 3-4 weeks during monsoon season. Recently this place is getting much attraction from the tourists and hence to preserve the damage to the environment, only 3000 people are allowed per day. One will be mesmerized by sleeping in the lap of nature and experience the freshness that the place has to offer.
The flowers blooming here are Anjani, Paner, Sonki, Kondal, Deepkadee and Kaasa. You will be amazed by the picturesque views of colorful flowers spread across hectares of land. Being around nature and being amazed at what nature has to offer is one of the most amazing things you can ever experience.
